NRM publicist rallies voters to oust corrupt leaders in Zombo
“Fellow voters, this isn’t about bribes or handouts. We must vote out these corrupt leaders who’ve kept us lagging behind,” he said.
Zombo: In a passionate call to action, Stephen Okwaimungu, the National Resistance Movement (NRM) publicity secretary for Paidha Town Council, has urged voters to reject corrupt leaders in the upcoming elections, accusing them of stalling development in the district.
Addressing journalists at a press conference recently at Sky-Lux Hotel in Paidha, Okwaimungu condemned what he termed “entrenched corruption” that has led to education neglect, mismanagement of public funds, and widespread voter disillusionment.
“Fellow voters, this isn’t about bribes or handouts. We must vote out these corrupt leaders who’ve kept us lagging behind,” he said.
He specifically criticized leaders who have failed to invest in education over the past five years, arguing that real leadership is about service, not public appearances.
“Kick out those who’ve ignored our schools and failed to champion education. Development isn’t about attending funerals it’s about building a future,” he emphasized.
Okwaimungu’s remarks come amid rising political tension in Zombo District, as fresh allegations emerge implicating some newly appointed NRM executives in the misappropriation of youth funds. The accusations have sparked widespread outrage among locals, especially the youth.
At a recent NRM stakeholder meeting at the district headquarters, Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Festus Ayikobua reiterated his zero-tolerance stance on corruption.
“I have zero tolerance for corruption, and I’m someone who tolerates it less than most. We must work together to eradicate it if Zombo is to prosper,” Ayikobua said, receiving strong applause from attendees.
Francis Bolingo, a councilor from Athuma Sub-county, echoed Okwaimungu’s sentiments, calling for a unified front across political and religious lines.
“We must expose the corrupt openly and without hesitation,” Bolingo urged.
Meanwhile, a parliamentary candidate for Okoro County lauded the RDC for standing firm against malpractice and called on NRM supporters to uphold the party’s founding principles of integrity and patriotism.
Not one to mince words, Okwaimungu issued a stern warning to all public officials whether in the NRM, local government, or national agencies who engage in embezzlement or abuse of office.
“As long as people like me are here, no leader will get away with stealing public funds. We will expose you, no matter your rank,” he said.
The bold stance by Okwaimungu has energized sections of the electorate, especially the youth, who see the fight against corruption as a prerequisite for real development in the West Nile sub-region.
