Nine arrested for attacking ceremony in Jinja
The group faces multiple charges, including trespass, robbery, violence, and event disruption.
Jinja: Police in Jinja District arrested nine individuals for attacking and disrupting a Thanksgiving ceremony in Butagaya Subcounty on November 3, 2024, around 2:00 AM.
The ceremony, hosted by Mzee Abdul Kimbuuga, was a twin celebration marking the birth of his son Salongo Ashraf Kyevuna’s twins.
The suspects reportedly assaulted guests upon arrival at the event in Nawapanga Parish, Bubugo Central Village. They broke into the kitchen, stole food, damaged chairs and tents, and took mobile phones from attendees.
SP James Mubi, spokesperson for the Kiira Region, stated that Buwenge Town Council police were alerted and quickly responded, arresting the suspects. The group faces multiple charges, including trespass, robbery, violence, and event disruption.
The arrested individuals are Faizal Makoma (23), Ziyand Bukenya (22), Nicholas Kasonzi (19), Zephania Muwaguzi (18), Charles Magemeso (18), Sharif Muyingo (18), Husein Tenywa (18), Anthony Muwanga (19), and Salim Gulikamba. Mubi indicated they would be taken to court soon.
Mubi called on the community to embrace unity and respect, highlighting that such actions demonstrate a lack of regard for the nation and encouraging collective efforts to deter youth from criminal behavior.
