Newly born twin baby stolen from Koboko Hospital
No suspects have been arrested yet, but the search for the baby is still on.
Koboko: Police in Koboko district are investigating circumstances under which a twin baby boy was stolen from Koboko Hospital.
The hospital is located in Central Cell, Apa Ward, South Division, Koboko Municipality, Koboko District.
The twin baby boy was stolen from the above hospital on March 29, 2024, at about 8:30 p.m.
It’s alleged that on that fateful day, an unidentified woman stole the newly born baby boy belonging to one identified as Afekuru Baifa, who hails from Maracha district.
The incident happened when the mother of the baby had just returned from the theater for caesarean delivery to the ward. Afekuru was successfully operated on with twin boy and girl who were all alive.
Chandiru Beatrice, Afekuru’s sister-in-law, who was attending to her, told ugreports.co.ug that an unidentified woman impersonated to be one of the attendants in the ward volunteered to help the mother of the twins, thus disappearing with the baby.
This happened when Chandiru and Drateru Hella, the midwife, went out of the ward to take the placenta for disposal.
‘’When we came back to the ward, we only found the baby girl on the bed with the mother, and the baby boy was missing,’’ Chandiru explained.
She stressed that, as the mother was unconscious at the time, she was unable to know how the baby boy went missing.
‘’This prompted me to register a case of theft of a baby at Koboko Central Police Station,’’ Chandiru added.
Josephine Angucia, the West Nile Regional Police Spokesperson, says the case is being investigated under Koboko CPS Reference 39/29/03/2024.
Angucia adds that police acted by visiting the scene at the hospital ward, launching investigations, and recording statements from the attendant who was the complainant, the midwife, and other witnesses.
The regional police mouthpiece states that no suspects have been arrested yet, but the search for the baby is still on.
‘’As the search for the baby boy and the prime suspect is still going on, we appeal to the general public to join in the search for the newly born baby boy in their neighborhoods and villages and report any suspected stolen baby to the nearest authorities for quick follow-up.’’
