NEBBI: Angry mob lynches two suspected thieves, burns motorcycle
This brutal killing adds to the growing cases of mob action in Nebbi and the greater West Nile subregion.

Nebbi: Residents of Jupangira Sub-County, Nebbi District, woke up to a gruesome scene on March 8, 2025, after an angry mob lynched two suspected thieves in Jupakenu Village.
The suspects, who were riding a Bajaj motorcycle (Reg. No. UGD 961U), were allegedly caught stealing a goat. A highly charged mob pursued and rounded them up, before beating them to death and setting their motorcycle ablaze.
Felix Mugisha, the District Councillor of Jupangira Sub-County, confirmed the incident, stating: “The Bajaj motorcycle they were traveling on was burnt beyond recognition, and their bodies were taken by the police.”
Sunday Dominic Ogenmungu, the LCIII Chairperson of Jupangira Sub-County, also confirmed the killings, noting that the identities of the two suspects remain unknown.
“We learned of the lynching at around 5:00 AM in Jupakenu Village. Their identities are unclear, but we informed the police, who took the bodies to Nebbi Hospital for a postmortem,” Ogenmungu said.
One of the deceased was later identified by a relative as Okwai from Nyamucaru Village, Nyaryegi Parish, Alwi Sub-County, Pakwach District.

Ogenmungu cautioned residents against taking the law into their own hands, urging youths to engage in productive activities rather than resorting to crime or idleness.
The Nebbi District Police have yet to issue a statement on the incident.
According to the 2024 Police Annual Crime Report, 26 people die daily in Uganda due to murder and accidents, with mob justice cases remaining a major concern.
