Muslims demand elevation of Kabale to City status
He added that without the above, the public should forget the hopes of the city status, saying that it only brings new leaders into the government.
Kabale: The Kabale Muslim District Supreme Council has joined a section of residents to demand the operationalization of Kabale city status.
They revealed this yesterday during Eid Al-Fitr celebrations, which were held at Kirigime Mosque playground in southern Division Kabale Municipality.
Hajji Issa Tindyebwa, who is the Kabale Muslim District Supreme Council Chairperson, said that some of the visionary leaders, like the former Prime Minister Ruhakana Rugunda, had good ideas of Kabale getting city status, but they were disappointed with certain political leaders against it.
He added that the people who proposed for Kabale to have a city status were not wrong, advising those opposed to the city status not to be selfish and saying the city will benefit the entire Kigezi subregion.
A Section of Residents led by the former chairperson LC5 Rubanda Jogo Kenneth Biryabarema and other concerned locals under their umbrella kabale city claim forum had demanded the state minister for finance, General Duties Henry Musasizi Ariganyira, withdraw his words of kabale not getting city status.
However, the state minister for finance and general duties, Henry Musasizi Ariganyira, gave out three roads that need to first be worked on before Kabale district is accorded city status in 2025.
Musasizi said that Kabale will not get city status before the completion of Rwakaraba-Bunyonyi road, Rubuguri road, Katuna Muko road, and Kamukyira health center IV being elevated to the district hospital.
He added that without the above, the public should forget the hopes of the city status, saying that it only brings new leaders into the government.
Kabale district was among the 15 districts the cabinet had approved to have city status in May 2019 in a phased manner.
In the first lot, Arua, Gulu, Jinja, Fort Portal, and Mbarara would be elevated to city status; in the second cohort, Hoima and Mbale would be elevated in 2021; and Lira and Entebbe would be elevated in the third lot. Others are Nakasongola, Moroto, Masaka, Soroti, Kabale, and Wakiso.
However, according to authorities, Kabale City boundary consultations were to be made in 2025.
