Museveni mourns Kikuube LCV Chairperson Banura as he is laid to rest

Banura is survived by a widow and three children.

Kikuube: President Yoweri Museveni has extended his condolences to the family of Matayo Kyaligonza, Uganda’s Ambassador to Burundi, following the tragic death of his son, Peter Banura.

Banura, who served as the LCV Chairperson of Kikuube District, died in a road accident on Saturday.

The burial ceremony held on Thursday at Kakoga Village in Buhimba Town Council, Kikuube District, drew a large gathering of dignitaries, including politicians, cultural leaders, security officials, religious leaders, business figures, and members of the public.

Representing the President, Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja delivered a condolence message and handed over UGX 20 million to the bereaved family.

She conveyed the President’s message of sympathy and prayed for strength and comfort for the family during this difficult time.

Speaking during the ceremony, retired Major General Matayo Kyaligonza expressed heartfelt appreciation to the thousands of mourners from within Uganda and abroad who turned up to pay their last respects to his son.

Meanwhile, Andrew Moses Awany, President of the Uganda Local Government Association, called on the government to strengthen measures aimed at reducing road accidents.

He urged authorities to assess the mental state of road users and appealed to the Ministry of Works and Transport to enforce stricter road safety regulations to curb the rising number of accidents.

Leaders from Kagadi District who attended the burial praised Banura for his leadership, describing him as a unifying figure who championed peace, development, and community cohesion.

Banura is survived by a widow and three children. He was 48 years old.
