Museveni directs Kasaija to allocate funds for Masindi Hospital
Masindi Hospital was constructed in the 1920s as a dispensary for Uganda Railways.
Kampala: President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has directed the Minister of Finance, Planning, and Economic Development, Matia Kasaija, to allocate funds for the construction of Masindi Hospital.
This was disclosed by the state minister for youth and children affairs, Balaam Barugahara, while speaking to this publication.
Barugahara says that, when he hosted the president in Masindi district on Friday, September 20, 2024, Museveni was elusive on the issue of the construction of Masindi hospital, which is in a sorry state.
However, Museveni’s silence on the construction of Masindi hospital did not go down well with residents of Masindi district, as published in this publication on Tuesday this week.
What seems to bring hope to residents of Masindi is that minister Barugahara has disclosed that, when he met the president on Monday, he reported to him on how people have angrily reacted to his silence on the construction Masindi hospital and he had to reconsider his position.
Barugahara disclosed that President Museveni has now ordered Matia Kasaija to ensure money is allocated for the construction of Masindi Hospital as soon as possible.
‘’After meeting the president, he has directed the minister Kasaija to allocate funds towards the construction of Masindi hospital.’’
During President Museveni’s meeting in Masindi, the Finance Minister Matia Kasaija said that they had allocated one billion shillings towards the construction of new structures at Masindi Hospital, but money was diverted.
He, however, assured the people of Masindi that the construction will commence soon since the matter is also being handled by the ministry of health.
Masindi Hospital was constructed in the 1920s as a dispensary for Uganda Railways. By the time it was constructed, it was serving 50,000 people. It currently serves more than 500,000 people from Nakasongola, Kiryandongo, Buliisa, and Hoima districts.
