MTN donates Shs10 million towards the consecration of Bishop Ateirweho
His consecration and enthronement as the 6th Bishop are scheduled for August 11, 2024, at St. Peter’s Cathedral in Hoima.
Hoima: MTN Uganda has donated UGX 10 million to the Bunyoro-Kitara Diocese Church of Uganda in support of the consecration of Bishop Jacob Ateirweho.
The dummy cheque was presented to Bishop Samuel Kahuma, the retiring bishop, by Olive Mwesigwa, General Manager of MTN Uganda Hoima.
According to Mwesigwa, MTN Uganda is deeply committed to supporting the development of the church, highlighting the introduction of a merchant code for Bunyoro Kitara Diocese, which enables people to contribute money easily and promotes the use of MTN MoMo Pay.
She encouraged more people to use the code to support the diocese’s work.
Bishop Samuel Kahuma, the retiring bishop of Bunyoro Kitara Diocese, expressed his deepest gratitude to MTN Uganda for their generous support.
Bishop Kahuma appreciated MTN Uganda for the UGX 10 million donation, which will go a long way in supporting the consecration of the new bishop, Jacob Akweteireho.
He praised MTN Uganda for their consistent support of the diocese, citing the introduction of the MoMo Pay code as a game-changer for their financial transactions.
Rev. Canon Jacob Ateirweho was elected on April 17, 2024, as the 6th Bishop of the Diocese of Bunyoro Kitara by the House of Bishops of the Church of Uganda.
The election took place during the House of Bishops’ session at the Daniel Uganda Missional Centre in Lwenza.
His consecration and enthronement as the 6th Bishop are scheduled for August 11, 2024, at St. Peter’s Cathedral in Hoima.
Rev. Canon Jacob Ateirweho was born on August 24, 1968, at Hoima Hospital. He accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior on April 5, 1991.
He was ordained as a deacon on February 5, 2006, and as a priest on July 23, 2006.
Ateirweho is married to Irene Kobusinge, and they have been blessed with five biological children.
Rev Canon Jacob Ateirweho holds a bachelor’s degree in divinity from Uganda Christian University.
He currently serves as the vicar of All Saints Church, Hoima Town Parish, in the Diocese of Bunyoro Kitara.
His appointment follows the retirement of the former bishop, Samuel Kahuma, who stepped down in August of the same year.
