MTN donates beds, mattresses to Kyankwanzi School

By providing a safe and hygienic space, the school ensures that female students can focus on their studies without worrying about basic necessities.

Kyankwanzi: MTN Uganda, under the auspices of its MTN Foundation, has made a generous donation to St. Joseph’s Aid Society in Kyankwanzi District.

They handed over 40 double-decker beds and 20 mattresses, collectively worth 20 million Ugandan shillings.

This community-based organization, founded by priest Rochus David Kasole in 1992, is dedicated to supporting vulnerable learners.

The school, which provides both primary and secondary education, enrolls 830 students from various districts, including Kyankwanzi, Hoima, Masindi, Kiboga, and Iganga. Notably, the students do not pay school fees, as the institution operates as a non-profit organization.

The donation of these beds and mattresses is part of MTN Uganda’s broader commitment to improving community living conditions and empowering the next generation.

Through their MTN Change makers initiative, the MTN Foundation earmarked 500 million Ugandan shillings for 25 selected projects across the nation, spanning economic empowerment, education, health, and water, among others.

By providing safer and healthier sleeping environments, MTN aims to eliminate health risks associated with poor sleeping conditions, such as exposure to colds and pests.

These beds are more than just furniture; they represent a step toward nurturing the potential of every child and enabling them to focus on their education.

As the CEO of MTN Uganda, Sylvia Mulinge, emphasized, “Together, we’re unstoppable” in their commitment to making a meaningful difference in the communities they serve,

It’s heartwarming to see organizations like the MTN Foundation stepping up to support educational institutions like St. Joseph’s Aid Society in Kyankwanzi District.

The school director, Father William Refile Gayi, said that the donation of beds and mattresses will undoubtedly improve the students’ well-being, but it’s equally important to address other critical needs.

The construction of a pit latrine specifically for girls is a commendable initiative. Access to proper sanitation facilities is essential for maintaining health and dignity.

By providing a safe and hygienic space, the school ensures that female students can focus on their studies without worrying about basic necessities.
