Masindi: The Masindi Municipality Cup 2025 officially kicked off this week, with a strong call to action for women to actively engage in football as a gateway to empowerment and opportunity.
The tournament, sponsored by local football advocate and FUFA executive member Rogers Byamukama Araali, is set to run through July.
Speaking during the opening ceremony held on Saturday at Masindi Stadium, Byamukama emphasized the growing potential within women’s football.
“It is easier to penetrate different opportunities in women’s football than in men’s,” he said.
Byamukama distributed essential football gear to all 24 participating teams, which include both male and female squads, as part of the launch event.
He noted that football not only promotes physical well-being and unity but also holds economic promise for talented players.
The tournament is designed to strengthen community ties, uncover local talent, and provide a platform for youth to shine in sports.
The male champions will receive Ugandan shillings 4 million and a trophy, while the runners-up will walk away with shillings 2 million. Third and fourth places will each receive 500,000 shillings.
For the female teams, the champions are slated to receive shillings 2 million, the runners-up will get shillings 1 million, and third and fourth places will also take home shillings 500,000 each.
