Masindi security guard arrested with bomb-detonating devices

Masindi: Police in Masindi district are holding a security guard over allegations of being in possession of suspected bomb detonating devices.
The suspect has been identified by police as Richard Kumakech, 30, a security guard attached to Saracen Security Company and resident of Kidweera II village in Labboongo Sub County, Masindi district.
The officer in charge of Masindi police station, Fabian Baryayamba, says the suspect was guarding Kinyara sugarcane plantations in Kiryana village, Kimengo Sub County, at the time of his arrest on Friday.
Baryayamba explains that the police, acting on intelligence, found Kumakech in possession of the devices and took him to the Masindi police station, where he is still being detained.
The police officer adds that police are working with other security agencies in investigating the matter and that the suspect would be handed over to bomb experts for more inquiries.
In a related development, Baryayamba revealed that police recovered an SMG gun that was stolen from a private security company last year.
He explained that the gun belonging to SGA Security Company was recovered in Kayoma village in Kigulya division, Masindi district, on Friday, and that the matter is being handled by the forensic team.
