Masindi: Members of the Western ward Parish Development Model (PDM) SACCO in Central Division, Masindi Municipality, have dropped their chairman, Rashid Kasaija, over accusations of extortion and elected new executive committee members.

Kasaija and others were dropped during elections presided over by Monica Tibemanya, the Masindi municipal council commercial officer, during the annual general meeting that was held on July 26, 2024, at Central Division headquarters in Kihande 1 cell.

Members replaced Kasaija with Murshid Abigaba as chairperson, deputized by Joan Asiimwe; Sylvia Ganjana as general secretary; and Egesa Night Sylvia as treasurer. Other members of the committee are Vincent Mugoya, the only member who retained his position; Godfrey Amaku, representing the youth; Fred Mbogo, for the elderly; Sayuni Nkulabirawo, for PWDs; and Gladys Facan, representing women.

The Masindi municipal commercial officer, Monica Tibemanya, said elections were held before the term of office for the outgoing executive committee members expired because they have been receiving overwhelming complaints against the Kasaija over extortion.

The incoming chairperson, Murshid Abigaba, promised to work with other committee members and other stakeholders to ensure PDM is implemented in accordance with the guidelines in place.

Isaac Bongomin, the LCIII chairman for the Central Division, was optimistic that the new executive committee members wouldn’t repeat the same mistakes committed by their predecessors.

Patrick Alinaitwe, the LCII chairman for Western Ward who doubles as the chairman of the parish development committee, appealed to the incoming executive committee members not to extort money from people who are seeking to benefit from the parish development model program.
