Masindi pastor arrested over aggravated defilement, child trafficking

Hakiza confirmed that Kajura will face charges of aggravated defilement and child trafficking once investigations are complete.

Masindi: Police in Masindi District are holding a 50-year-old pastor over allegations of aggravated defilement and child trafficking in Pakanyi Sub- County.

The suspect has been identified as Pastor Robert Kajura, who also serves as the LC1 chairperson of Kisindizi Village in Pakanyi Sub- County. The victim’s identity has been withheld because she is a minor.

According to Allan Julius Hakiza, the Greater Albertine Region Police Spokesperson, the case was reported on October 22, 2025, by the deputy head teacher of Ebenezer Nursery and Primary School in Kihonda Village, Labbongo Sub- County. The report alleged that Pastor Kajura had defiled an 11-year-old girl.

Hakiza told ugreports.co.ug on Friday, October 31, 2025 that police immediately opened investigations, which led to the arrest of the suspect. During a search at Kajura’s home, officers also discovered five other children, resulting in an additional charge of child trafficking.

“After recording statements from the children, police, working closely with the probation office, handed all six minors to Family Spirit Children’s Centre in Nyangahya for temporary custody as investigations continue,” Hakiza said.

Preliminary police findings revealed that the victim is an orphan who had been living with her aunt before Pastor Kajura took her to his home in 2023, allegedly to care for her. Investigators later discovered that Kajura had been running an unregistered orphanage, leading to further charges of child trafficking.

An administrator at Ebenezer Nursery and Primary School, who preferred anonymity, said the matter came to light during a counselling and guidance session when the girl revealed that her guardian had been sexually abusing her.

“We took the pupil for medical examination, but the hospital requested a police form. That is how the matter was referred to police,” the administrator explained.

Hakiza confirmed that Kajura will face charges of aggravated defilement and child trafficking once investigations are complete.
