Masindi elderly man beaten to death in revenge for poisoning resident

As of now, no suspects have been arrested, as all of them fled the scene.

Masindi: The territorial police of Masindi district are investigating a case of murder by mob and poisoning.

Julius Allan Hakiza, the Albertine Region police spokesperson, told this news portal on Monday, May 6, 2024, that the incident happened in Nyakyanika village, Labongo parish, in Labongo Sub County.

According to Hakiza, on May 4, 2024, an allegation emerged that Geoffrey Vitha died due to a stomach ache, and the community and relatives pointed fingers at Mzee Lawrence Onen, accusing him of poisoning the victim.

In a fit of rage, the community and relatives confronted Mzee Onen. Attempting to escape, Onen sought refuge at the home of the local LC1 chairman. Unfortunately, the chairman was not present at the time.

Hakiza stressed that the angry mob apprehended Onen, forcibly took him back to the deceased’s home, and beat him to death in front of his own children. To add to the horror, they also burned down his house.

As of now, no suspects have been arrested, as all of them fled the scene. However, authorities are actively working to apprehend them and bring them to justice.

Hakiza strongly advises the public to refrain from taking justice into their own hands through mob violence, saying such actions can lead to tragic consequences and undermine the proper legal process.
