LIST! Over 60 police recruits arrested over forged documents

He said if they fail to produce original documents, they will be prosecuted for forgery and uttering false documents.

Masindi: Sixty-nine police recruits at Kabalye Police Training School in Masindi district are being investigated for forgery and uttering false documents.

The case was reported by ACP Emitu Ezekiel Ebapu, the commandant of Kabalye Police Training School at Masindi Central Police Station, on July 20, 2024.

It’s alleged that between July 13, 2024, and July 20, 2024, the suspects went to report to Kabalye police training school for training as probation police constables and had moved with forged academic documents, which they handed over to the police verification team from the Uganda Police Force Human Resources.

However, the documents were found to be forged, and this prompted the commandant of the police training school, Kabalye, to report the case at CPS Masindi.

Simon Peter Ochitti, the officer in charge of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Masindi district, says a case of forgery and uttering false documents was registered at Masindi police station, and inquiries commenced via MSD GEF:051/2024.

Ochitti adds that statements were recorded by the reporter and witnesses, including those of the suspects, and certified copies of the alleged forged document were retrieved and attached to the file.

The police officer added that the original documents are to be taken to UNEB for verification by the team from the Uganda Police Force Human Resource Team.

In addition, all the suspects and their properties were handed over to CPS Masindi for further investigation.

Ochitti said that the majority of the suspects confessed to having forged their documents from their districts with the intention of joining the police.

Julius Allan Hakiza, the Albertine Regional Police Spokesperson, confirmed the arrest of the recruits and noted that they have been released on bond.

He, however, said they are required to produce original documents while verification is conducted with UNEB.

The regional police spokesperson said that if they fail to produce original documents, they will be prosecuted for forgery and uttering false documents.
