The decision was announced by Lamwo District RDC, Mr. Komakech William, in an exclusive interview with this publication.

The ban, which will last for 2-3 weeks starting Monday, January 13, 2025, aims to contain the spread of the disease.

Auction and market days in Agoro have been suspended until the district security committee can reassess the situation and determine the next steps. Limited movement within the area is being enforced.

Sadly, one victim has died from the disease. The affected individuals are being treated at Agoro Health Center III, which has been designated as a quarantine unit.

By Sunday, January 12, 2025, a total of 37 active cholera cases had been reported in the subcounty.

Lamwo District LCV Chairperson, Hon. Oyet Sisto Ocen, indicated that the outbreak could be linked to the influx of South Sudanese nationals during the “Auction 2024” market event. He noted that the large crowds present during the event may have contributed to the spread of cholera.

Commissioner Komakech further pledged to collaborate with authorities in South Sudan to curb the spread of cholera in the district.
