Kitgum women urged to advocate for peaceful marriages, wealth creation

She encouraged women to play an active role in strengthening their households, both emotionally and economically.

Kitgum: During the Kitgum district’s Women’s Day Belated Celebration recently, Adule Joyce, the Kitgum district Labour Officer and the 2025 Chairperson of the Central Organizing Committee, urged women in the district to advocate for peace within their marriages and focus on wealth creation.

Joyce emphasized the importance of unity within marriages as a foundation for fostering peaceful family lives. She encouraged women to play an active role in strengthening their households, both emotionally and economically.

The Kitgum District LCV Chairperson, Hon. Arwai Christopher Obol, acknowledged the late celebrations due to the National Women’s Day observance on 8th March.

He commended the efforts of the central organizing committee for their effective mobilization, which contributed to the success of the event.

Obol also expressed appreciation for the leadership, stakeholders, and partners whose contributions made the celebration impactful.

Hon. Aber Lillian, the Kitgum District Woman MP and State Minister for Relief, Disaster Preparedness, and Refugees, highlighted the government’s ongoing support for women’s empowerment.

She spoke about key economic initiatives such as the Uganda Women Entrepreneurship Programme (UWEP) and the Gender Responsive Opportunities for Women (GROW) under President Museveni’s leadership, which are designed to improve women’s economic participation.

Hon. Lillian also echoed the call for women to become advocates for peaceful marriages while also championing wealth creation.

She stressed that women have the power to drive both social harmony and economic prosperity.

The celebration was held under the theme, “For ALL Women and Girls: Rights. Equality. Empowerment.” This theme encourages action towards unlocking equal rights, power, and opportunities for all, creating a future where no woman or girl is left behind.
