Kitgum RDC orders for closure of schools during holidays

He warned that any school found continuing with holiday lessons would face serious repercussions for non-compliance.

Kitgum: The Resident District Commissioner (RDC) of Kitgum, Mr. Ssegawa Nehemiah Jimmy Ebil, has ordered the closure of schools during holidays.

He has issued a directive to the Kitgum District Education Officer and the Kitgum Municipality Principal Municipal Education Officer through the Chief Administrative Officer and Town Clerk to immediately close all schools conducting holiday lessons within the district and municipality.

In a letter dated September 4, 2024, obtained by this publication, RDC Ebil emphasized that holiday lessons violate the government’s education policy and the Ministry of Education and Sports’ guidelines.

He noted that such practices are counterproductive and harmful to learners’ development, leading to brain over-saturation and low knowledge retention.

Ebil warned that any school found continuing with holiday lessons would face serious repercussions for non-compliance.
