Kitgum hospital receives ultrasound machine
Its primary aim is to reduce maternal and infant mortality in the region.
Kitgum: The Rotary Club of Kitgum has donated a state-of-the-art ultrasound machine to Kitgum Government Hospital.
According to Mr. Ventorino Otto, the Service Project Director of the Rotary Club, the ultrasound machine was purchased at 24 million Ugandan shillings.
Its primary aim is to reduce maternal and infant mortality in the region.
In addition to the ultrasound, Mr. Otto mentioned that the donation included disposable gloves and a transformer worth 300,000 shillings to protect the equipment from power fluctuations, which are common in Kitgum District.
He emphasized that imaging services should not be charged to any patients.
While receiving the donation, Dr. Henry Okello Otto, the District Health Officer of Kitgum, expressed gratitude to the Rotary Club for helping to bridge the gap in healthcare services.
He noted that many ultrasound scans had previously been done outside Kitgum Government Hospital due to the non-functional state of the old equipment.
Dr. Okello highlighted that with the new partnership between the hospital and Rotary Club Kitgum, the ultrasound machine will now provide thorough investigations for pregnant mothers, thyroid gland examinations, and other essential imaging services.
