Kiryandongo communities engaged on security, service delivery

Kiryandongo: The National Defense College of Uganda recently held community barazas in Kiryandongo District to assess the security situation and the implementation of various government programs.
These discussions took place in Bweyale Town Council and Kalwala Village, Kiryandongo Sub County.
Brigadier General Keffa Nangeso, who led the delegation, informed the community that the college was conducting research on security and government service delivery by engaging directly with citizens.
He emphasized the need to compare theoretical knowledge from the college with practical experiences in the community.
Richard Abola, the LCI chairman of Bweyale Cell, raised concerns about the high population in Bweyale, which consists of a variety of ethnic groups, posing a security threat.
He noted that the current police manpower was insufficient to manage the growing population and called for more police officers and the establishment of a larger police station.
Zubair Mawa, a resident of Bweyale, echoed these concerns, stating that criminals were exploiting the lack of police presence to terrorize the community. Mawa also pledged to mobilize the community to provide land for the establishment of a police barracks.
To further reinforce security, Retired Sergeant Vincent Idraku, the Chairperson of the Veterans Association, called upon the government to engage the 482 registered veterans in Kiryandongo to assist the police.
Idraku emphasized that these veterans are currently idle and on the government payroll, making them a valuable resource for supporting law enforcement efforts.
Bweyale Town Council has been facing increasing theft and burglary cases, which have raised significant security concerns.
The findings from these community engagements will help inform strategies aimed at improving both security and government service delivery in Kiryandongo District and across Uganda.
