Kibaale Emyooga fund defaulters face arrest
Successful beneficiaries have expressed gratitude to President Museveni for the positive impact on their lives.
Kibaale: The Kibaale Resident District Commissioner, Mr. Godwin Angalia Kasigwa, has taken a firm stance on the recovery of Emyooga funds in the district.
He has directed commercial and production officers, along with the Kibaale Police, to expedite the retrieval of 1.2 billion shillings that were disbursed as part of the Emyooga program.
Currently, only 36.5% of the disbursed funds have been recovered, which is a cause for concern.
The Emyooga funds were distributed to over 2,000 beneficiaries across 36 SACCOs involved in crop cultivation, animal husbandry, and other enterprises.
However, some recipients have defaulted on their repayment obligations.
To address this, Mr. Kasigwa has issued a clear directive: recover 60% of the disbursed funds promptly, or face the consequences of arrest for defaulters.
Interestingly, some defaulters have put forth various claims. Some argue that the Emyooga funds were an offer of appreciation from President Museveni, given in return for overwhelming votes during the last elections.
Others, including certain leaders, consider themselves untouchable and immune to consequences.
Undeterred by these excuses, Mr. Kasigwa insists that the funds were always intended as a revolving fund.
He has instructed officials to collaborate with the police and ensure that those who took the money fulfill their repayment obligations.
According to Mr. Kasigwa, any attempts to evade responsibility will result in immediate arrest.
Additionally, Mr. Kasigwa has expressed concern about the quality of coffee production. He plans to arrest farmers who harvest immature coffee beans and those who compromise the quality by boiling them.
His unwavering commitment to accountability aims to safeguard the livelihoods of beneficiaries and maintain the integrity of the cash crop.
In summary, the Emyooga program has seen both success stories and setbacks. While some SACCOs have flourished, others have collapsed due to mismanagement of funds.
Successful beneficiaries have expressed gratitude to President Museveni for the positive impact on their lives.
The district authorities remain steadfast in their efforts to ensure responsible use of Emyooga funds and uphold the program’s intended purpose.
