Kabuleta calls for unity and coalition in opposition

He said NEED is the only party that truly values the region’s uniqueness.

Kampala:  Former presidential candidate Joseph Kabuleta has launched a new political party, the National Economic Empowerment Dialogue (NEED), with a strong call for opposition unity and national transformation.

The party’s symbol a maize cob  represents economic self-reliance and the power of grassroots empowerment.

The launch event took place at Watchman Grounds in Nsambya, Kampala City, drawing supporters, political activists, and leaders from across Uganda.

In his keynote address, Kabuleta urged Ugandans to embrace a new direction for the country. He pledged to prioritize economic empowerment, job creation, and anti-corruption efforts if elected president.

“Uganda needs leadership that listens, understands, and responds to the people’s real needs. That’s what NEED stands for,” Kabuleta stated.

He also criticized the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM), particularly for its failure to address the socio-economic challenges in the Bunyoro sub-region, and encouraged residents there to reconsider their political allegiance.

Other speakers at the event included aspiring MPs and political figures who highlighted regional struggles and expressed hope in NEED’s vision.

Charles Rwomushana, a political analyst, encouraged supporters to remain committed to Kabuleta’s ideology, stressing that “the future of Uganda is in our hands.”

Mr. Silvester Lokotho, an aspiring MP for Eleliko Constituency in the Karamoja region, emphasized Karamoja’s distinct identity and said NEED is the only party that truly values the region’s uniqueness.

Hon. Lumansi Benjamin, eyeing the parliamentary seat for Kibanda North in Kiryandongo District, highlighted the persistent human-wildlife conflict affecting farmers near the national park, resulting in widespread crop destruction and economic hardship.

A major theme in Kabuleta’s speech was the need for unity among opposition forces. He argued that fragmented efforts only strengthen the ruling regime.

“A divided opposition cannot win. Only a united coalition can bring an end to Museveni’s long rule,” he said, vowing to work closely with other opposition leaders and NEED party members to achieve their common goals.

The party launch marks a new chapter in Uganda’s political scene, with Kabuleta positioning NEED as a people-first alternative to the status quo, rooted in accountability and regional inclusion.
