Jinja district council presents proposed budget for FY2025/26
After deliberations, the councillors approved the proposed budget and agreed to forward it to the various committees for further consideration.

Jinja: Jinja District Council has presented the proposed budget for the financial year 2025/26, which was discussed in a meeting held at Jinja District Hall on March 25, 2025.
The budget, which will run until June 20, 2026, totals 47,670,993,540 shillings (forty-seven billion, six hundred seventy million, nine hundred ninety-three thousand, five hundred and forty shillings).
The budget allocation is divided as follows; 61.1% (29,148,541,776 shillings) is earmarked for wages, 32.5% (15,481,260,299 shillings) is for non-wage recurrent expenditure and 6.4% (3,041,191,465 shillings) will go towards capital development.
Speaker Namukose Monica confirmed that the budget had been presented, giving councillors time to review and propose changes. The District Executive Committee (DEC) organized the budget and it has been forwarded to the respective committees for further review before finalization.
Jinja District Chairman Batwala Moses highlighted that the budget covers a wide range of district expenses, including health, education, environment, administration, and other essential services.
He thanked the councillors for their diligent work and expressed gratitude to the Minister of Finance for their role in preparing the budget. Batwala also acknowledged the central government for supporting the district, which does not generate local revenue.
The Chairman also promised improvements in infrastructure, including the construction of more roads, boreholes, and other developments, benefiting the community.
