Jinja city schools celebrate excellent 2024 PLE results

Jinja: Jinja City schools have outperformed government schools, following the release of the Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE) results on January 23rd by the Minister for Education, Janet Kataha Museveni.

According to the executive director, UNEB, Daniel Odingo,a total of 797,444 candidates from 14,883 centers registered for the 2024 PLE, a significant increase from the 749,347 registered in 2023. Of these, 524,025 (65.7%) were Universal Primary Education (UPE) beneficiaries, while 273,419 (34.3%) were from non-UPE schools.

However In a visit around Jinja City and the Busoga region, Ebenezer Standard Primary School headteacher, Richard Saali, shared that out of the 42 students who sat for P7, 25 attained Division 1, 16 secured Division 2, and the best student, Nekesa Mariam with, achieved the highest aggregate score. However speaking to the school public relations officer Mrs Byuma Betty Tuuse says its through collaborative efforts that such results are attained and through the motivation from the school management that this has led to achievements

East View Primary School’s director, Nathan Muwanika, proudly announced that of the 30 students who sat for the PLE, 28 achieved Division 1, while two students made it into Division 2. He credited the school’s consistent top performance in the region to their focus on capacity building.

Muwanika expressed his gratitude to the parents for their support, helping the school maintain its position as the best in the area.

At Vic View Primary School in Bugembe, Jinja City, headteacher Kisubi Rashid reported impressive results as well. Of the 47 students who sat for the PLE, 37 achieved Division 1, 9 secured Division 2, and 1 student earned Division 3.

St. Paul Mudha School’s Director of Studies, Godfrey, revealed that 16 students achieved Division 1, with a total of 55 candidates sitting for the exam. The best student received 4 aggregates, making them the top performer at the school. St. Anne Junior School also performed well, with 12 students in Division 1 and 9 in Division 2.

However At Narambhai Primary School,Jinja city, 68 candidates sat for the exams, with 9 passing in Division I47 in Division II, 10 in Division III, and 2 in Division IV and U.

The top performers were Akwari Mildred (aggregate 7), Nakilanda Shaminah (aggregate 8), and Gonza Patrick (aggregate 10). The senior education assistant praised the headmistress, Mrs. Bayogera Catherine, and the teachers for their efforts.

Spire Road Primary School also reported excellent results, with 10 out of 40 candidates passing in Division I and the remaining 30 in Division II.

The top performers were Assimwe, Afema, and Amoding Lera.

Magwa Primary School had 72 candidates sit for the exams, with 12 passing in 1ST grade, 60 in Div 2.

Howver at twickle junior school mutai , 33 passed up in division one and 13 in second grade out of the 46 pupils who sat for PLE.

However, the performance of government schools has shown a decline in comparison to these private institutions, according to various headteachers in the region.  The 2024 Primary Leaving Examination (PLE) performance in Uganda showed a slight decrease in the number of candidates who earned Division One, but an overall improvement in performance.

7.9% of candidates scored Distinction in Social Studies and 6.4% scored Distinction in Science,  Credit 75.6% of candidates scored Credit in S.S.R.S and 73.8% scored Credit in Science , Pass  91.9% of candidates scored Pass in S.S.R.S and 93.4% scored Pass in Science , Division One 10.7% of candidates earned Division One, which is a slight decrease from 11.7% in 2023
