IGP Byakagaba cautions Acholi Police Officers on discipline and accountability

Acholi: The Uganda Inspector General of Police (IGP), Abbas Byakagaba, has issued a stern warning to police officers in the Aswa East and Aswa West regions about the importance of discipline and accountability in their duties.

Speaking at a meeting with regional police staff, including District Police Commanders (DPCs) from the Aswa East, Aswa West, and North Kyoga regions, Byakagaba emphasized the need for officers to exercise authority fairly and responsibly.

The meeting, which took place at Gulu City Hall on recently, provided a platform for the IGP to address issues related to effective command and control, and the responsible use of police resources.

He highlighted the crucial role that officers play in maintaining security across the country and stressed that their behavior and leadership directly affect the success of the Uganda Police Force’s strategic objectives.

According to Aswa East Regional Police Spokesperson, IP Oloya Joe, the IGP commended the police commanders for their excellent management of security during the festive season, acknowledging their efforts in maintaining peace and order during a busy period.

Byakagaba reiterated the importance of police officers in safeguarding national security, noting that they are the backbone of the country’s security framework.

He further stated that President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has continuously emphasized that security is a cornerstone for Uganda’s socio-economic development and transformation.

The IGP also discussed the Sub-County policing model, a directive from President Museveni that he called on officers to implement fully.

In addition to security concerns, Byakagaba addressed the welfare of police officers, highlighting ongoing efforts to resolve challenges such as salary delays and the provision of adequate staff housing.
