How Kinyara sugar factory workers survived assassination

Obua sustained a gunshot wound to the stomach, while his colleagues fled in fear.

Masindi: In Masindi district, an alarming incident unfolded when four cane loaders, all associated with Kinyara Sugar Factory, survived assassination.

Unknown assailants targeted cane loaders from Kinyara Sugar Works Limited, resulting in the injury of Morish Obua, a 22-year-old employee.

The incident occurred in Kihonda village, Labongo sub-county, Masindi district, on Friday, April 12, 2024, around 2:30 p.m.

The group, led by David Abigaba (the truck driver), set out from Kinyara Sugar Factory to load sugarcane. However, their vehicle encountered mechanical issues, forcing them to stop.

While inspecting the vehicle, two individuals on a Bajaj motorcycle approached, and without warning, they opened fire.

Obua sustained a gunshot wound to the stomach, while his colleagues fled in fear.

Despite lacking valuables, the assailants’ motive remains unclear. David Abigaba, the truck driver, expressed confusion about the attack.

Julius Allan Hakiza, the Albertine Regional Police Spokesperson, confirmed the incident on Monday, April 15, 2024, and said Obua was swiftly transported to Kitara Medical Center in Masindi town, where he is currently receiving treatment for his injuries.

He also disclosed that police have commenced investigations into the motive for the shooting.
