Lamwo: Nineteen confirmed cases of cholera have been reported in Agoro Subcounty, Lamwo District, with one victim unfortunately succumbing to the disease.

The cases were confirmed on Friday, January 10, 2025. The affected individuals are currently receiving treatment at Agoro Health Center III, which has been secured as a quarantine unit.

RDC William has urged the community to prioritize personal hygiene and sanitation. He emphasized that cholera can be prevented through simple measures such as proper hand washing, keeping latrines clean, and promptly reporting any suspected cases to Agoro Health Center III for immediate medical response.

Lamwo District Health Officer, Dr. Ocula Omoya, confirmed that the 19 victims are receiving care at Agoro Health Center III. Dr. Omoya also reported that the outbreak has affected five parishes: Lupulongii, Laruc, Ngacia, Pobaa, and Rudi, all within Agoro Subcounty.

Hon. Oyet Sisto Ocen, the LCV Chairperson of Lamwo District, also attributed the outbreak to the influx of South Sudanese nationals during the market event, commonly known as “Auction 2024.” He noted that the large crowds during the event may have contributed to the spread of the disease.
