Gulu NRM Chairman petitions President Museveni over corruption in the country

He pleads with the president to act quickly before these misguided elements may bring the NRM party, which he termed "that mightiest," to a halt.

Gulu: Jacob Ojok Otobi, the Chairman of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Party for the Layibi division of Gulu city, is concerned about the country’s ongoing corruption, in which billions of shillings, which are supposed to benefit tax-paying citizens, are allegedly stolen by a few government officials.

Ojok, who doubles as the area representative for the Library ward in the Bardege-Layibi division council of Gulu city, emphasized this to the president of the Republic of Uganda in what he referred to as an open letter.

His Excellency Yoweri Museveni Kaguat aired his criticisms, encouraging the president to swallow his manhood and deal with the corrupt and errant people working in the NRM government.

He pleads with the president to act quickly before these misguided elements may bring the NRM party, which he termed “that mightiest,” to a halt.

Here’s a partial reading of his letter. “I am writing with great pride to your Excellency, the Commander in Chief of the UPDF, President of the Republic of Uganda, and Father of the Nation. I admire your entire effort in making the country peaceful, prosperous, and politically stable to date. However, I’m curious why, despite numerous bouts of intimidation, conflict, segregation, denial, and so on, you were successful in liberating the country over a six-year period.

“I witnessed renowned business actors who promised you help, but they let you down, and you continued your journey. You traveled to Kabamba to seek help.

“You were denied logistical aid; nonetheless, you fought the bush war with determined, unpaid soldiers.

“You managed to defeat various rebel organizations, including the Holy Spirit Movement, the LRA, the West Nile Bank Front, and many others, with multiple weapons at your disposal.

“Therefore, I ask these questions to myself and you: Why are we failing to combat corruption in our country? What type of weapons do the corrupt citizens possess, or is it a system weapon that you created? Is it necessary for the state to set aside funds for reinforcement from outstanding warriors such as Joseph Kony and others to aid our government? Is there a need to create a specific prison for corrupt citizens? Why are you becoming a disgrace to yourself? Struggle and success in governing the country? I pray that God will speak to your heart.”

Labeja Bob William, the former RDC for Nebbi, Moyo, and Nakapiripirit, recently defected from the NRM to the UPC, claiming to have discovered rot within the NRM. Labeja has now been rallying people in Kitgum to adopt UPC ideals.

According to Labeja, the president’s statement, in which he was cited as saying that “stealing money from the government and investing in Uganda is better than when someone steals the money and invests outside Uganda,” has opened the door for corruption.
