Floods cut off Olwiyo–Pakwach Road, stranding motorists
This is not the first time River Tangi has burst its banks
Nebbi: The Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) has issued a travel advisory urging motorists to avoid using the Olwiyo–Pakwach road via the Pakwach Bridge.
Flooding caused by heavy rainfall on November 27, 2024, has submerged Tangi Junction, making the road impassable.
In a statement on X (formerly Twitter), UNRA confirmed the floods have disrupted travel between Arua, Gulu, and Kampala.
“We’ve received reports of flooding at Tangi Junction along the Olwiyo–Pakwach road, affecting connectivity for travelers from Arua to Gulu and Gulu to Kampala,” read part of the statement.
The authority further advised motorists: “Motorists are STRONGLY advised to use alternative routes and avoid the flooded section as water levels continue to rise.”
The flooding has left travelers stranded, with images and videos shared by locals highlighting the severity of the situation.
This is not the first time River Tangi has burst its banks; flooding in the area has become a recurring issue, disrupting livelihoods and transport for communities in West Nile and Northern Uganda.
Local leaders have long called for a permanent solution to the perennial flooding at River Tangi, but the problem remains unresolved. This year-round challenge continues to affect access and movement in the region, exacerbated by heavy rains.
Motorists and travelers are advised to monitor updates from UNRA and seek alternative routes until the situation improves.
