Five arrested in Masindi murder case
Angobi had a prior history of theft and involvement in multiple burglary cases.
Masindi: Police in Masindi district have detained five suspects in connection with a murder investigation following a mob attack that left one man dead.
Julius Allan Hakiza, the Albertine Regional Police Spokesperson, reported that Angobi Derrick, 27, along with two accomplices, Okwera and Enzama Vincent, were allegedly involved in a burglary at the home of Asiyasu Christine.
During the incident, a mob intervened, leading to a severe beating of Angobi, who succumbed to his injuries while being transported to the hospital after police intervention.
The incident occurred on October 16, 2024, around 11 PM in Mubende Cell, Kabango Ward, Kabango Town Council.
Angobi had a prior history of theft and involvement in multiple burglary cases.
Hakiza confirmed that a death inquiry file (No. 077/2024) has been opened, and investigations are ongoing with the five suspects in custody.
The police have refrained from disclosing further details about the suspects to protect the integrity of the investigation.
Hakiza expressed concern over the rising incidents of mob justice, emphasizing the need for community-based prevention and intervention strategies.
He urged anyone with information related to the case to come forward to assist the investigation.
