FINALLY! Masindi man who killed mother over food arrested

She was later referred to Hoima Regional Referral Hospital, where she sadly succumbed to her injuries.

Masindi: Police in Masindi District have arrested a man accused of killing his own mother following a domestic dispute over food in Pakanyi Sub County, Buruli County.

The suspect, identified as Anatoli Irumba, 30, allegedly struck his 70-year-old mother, Ms. Joyce Nyangireki, on the head with a pestle during an argument on Tuesday.

Eyewitnesses say Irumba fled the scene immediately after the assault, leaving his mother in critical condition.

Residents quickly responded and rushed Ms. Nyangireki to Masindi Main Hospital for treatment. She was later referred to Hoima Regional Referral Hospital, where she sadly succumbed to her injuries.

Following the incident, residents in collaboration with Masindi Police launched a manhunt for Irumba. According to Ronald Byabasaija, the LC1 Chairperson of the area, Irumba was apprehended on Wednesday evening at Masindi Hospital.

“After hitting the mother with a pestle, he went to Masindi Hospital and started asking where his mother was admitted. We were alerted, and with the help of police, he was arrested,” Byabasaija said.

Authorities have revealed that Irumba is an ex-convict who had recently served an eight-month sentence for attempting to murder his relatives.

He had been released from Masindi Prison just a week earlier, after a plea reportedly led by his now-deceased mother.

Masindi District Police Commander SP Pensive Tukasiima confirmed the arrest and stated that Irumba is currently detained at Masindi Central Police Station.

SP Tukasiima also cautioned the public against intervening in legal processes involving convicted individuals. “If someone has been convicted and detained, we shouldn’t plead for their release. Imagine he was released five days back and killed his mother,” she said.
