DP launches registration of party members in West Nile

He urged the Democratic Party chairpersons to take the exercise seriously since it plays a very big role in the foundation of the party.

Arua: The Democratic Party has launched the official registration of its party members in the West Nile region.

The launch that took place on Wednesday at Heritage Park in Arua City attracted Democratic Party district leaders from various districts of West Nile.

Rutagwera Herbert, the national organizing secretary of the Democratic Party, says the exercise stands on four core values, and it’s meant to separate its members from well-wishers, fans, and others.

He says the Democratic Party has four key specific objectives, which include cultivating a stake and playing a role in the governance of Uganda, among others.

Gerald Siranda, the secretary general of the Democratic Party, says the process the party has undertaken will help identify the number of members they have in every district and in Uganda at large.

He urged the Democratic Party chairpersons to take the exercise seriously since it plays a very big role in the foundation of the party.

Lemeriga Fadhil, the Democratic Party chairperson for Arua City, says this exercise will help identify the real members of the party since they will be required to subscribe formally before getting the party cards.

The registration process for party members will begin from grassroots in various villages, then to parishes, sub counties, counties, districts, and then national level, where there will be a national delegates’ conference that will be held in western Uganda later this year.

The Democratic Party is one of the oldest political parties in Uganda, having been formed before independence in 1954.
