Children arrested over murder of their father

Kanungu: In Kanungu, two individuals have been apprehended by the police for interrogation in connection with the murder of Bernard Byamugisha, a 49-year-old farmer residing in Bushoro Cell, Nyamigoye Parish, Kanyantorogo Sub County, Kanungu District.
The arrested suspects are Ivan Ampumuza, aged 20, and Morine Tukamushaba, aged 23, both biological children of the deceased.
The incident occurred on April 15, 2024, when the deceased went to his coffee plantation to harvest coffee beans and did not return home until April 16, 2024, around 8:00 a.m.
The son, Ampumuza (one of the suspects), inquired about his father’s whereabouts from neighbors, prompting the community to search the coffee plantation.
They discovered the body of the deceased lying approximately 3 meters from his home. The deceased had ongoing family conflicts with his children, who had previously made threats against his life.
The Kigezi Regional Police Spokesperson, Elly Maate, said they were alerted, and upon inspection of the crime scene, they documented relevant statements and conducted a postmortem examination.
The body was then handed over to the relatives for a decent burial. The case has been registered at Kanungu Central Police Station under file number CRB.240/2024.
