Hoima: Bunyoro Kitara Diocese inaugurated the BKD information, communication, and technology (ICT) board on Tuesday with a vision to uplift the standards of technology in the diocese.

The ICT board was inaugurated by the Bishop of Bunyoro Kitara Diocese, Samuel Kahuma, with Onesmus Twinamasiko as the board chairperson in the mother’s union board room.

The bishop says this generation is based on social media, and as a church, if there are things they want people to know without leaving the youth behind, then they should also be on social media so that the church is not left behind.

He added that, as clergy, they should embrace technology so as to make their communication effective.

Bishop Kahuma revealed that as the diocese embarks on the journey of social media, they have already started it, and with the ICT committee on board, they are going to do better things.

While speaking to reporters, Onesmus Twinamasiko, the Bunyoro Kitara Diocese ICT board chairman, explained that as the board, they have a big task, which is to start up the BKD radio station.

Twinamasiko says in Uganda, 80% of the population depends on radio stations for news and information.

He adds that the radio station needs UGX 500 million to be established, and the money collected is still small, thus calling upon the well-wishers to continue with the support.

Twinamasiko revealed that they have resolved that all lay leaders should have smartphones as a must, and by next year there will be no more sending of letters to different places, but they will be using email addresses.
