Bunyoro Kingdom rallied to join fight against HIV/AIDS
As the country continues to grapple with the HIV epidemic, the minister's intervention is seen as a vital step in promoting a more compassionate and effective response.
Hoima: The Vice Chairman of Buliisa District, Mr. Gilbert Tibasiima, has called upon the Bunyoro Kingdom to play a leading role in advising single mothers and those in the age of marriage on how to prevent HIV.
Speaking recently during the Bunyoro region stakeholders meeting to review the presidential track initiative on HIV and AIDS, Tibasiima emphasized that single mothers are candidates for acquiring or spreading HIV since, at times, they have more than one partner.
Tibasiima says the kingdom should guide the people, especially single mothers and those in the marriage age range, on how to protect themselves and their children from HIV and AIDS.
The politician highlighted the need for cultural and traditional leaders to join forces with healthcare providers and community organizations to combat HIV.
The Chairman’s call to action comes as the country commemorated International Candlelight Memorial Day, honoring those lost to HIV and reaffirming commitment to ending the epidemic.
In his response, the Minister for Culture, Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom, Hon. Robert Rukahemura, announced that the Kingdom is strengthening clan leadership to advise and guide those in the age of marriage to settle down and build stable families.
Rukahemura explained that the kingdom is also establishing a counseling program to support couples and ensure their marriages are strong and healthy.
As the country continues to grapple with the HIV epidemic, the minister’s intervention is seen as a vital step in promoting a more compassionate and effective response.
By engaging clan leadership and community structures, the Kingdom aims to create a supportive environment where everyone can thrive and contribute to ending HIV.
