Buliisa tycoon remanded over forgery, false document

Kaahwa has pleaded not guilty to the counts.

Buliisa: The State House Anti-Corruption Unit, together with the criminal investigation directorate, has arraigned Buliisa Tycoon Francis Kaahwa before Buliisa Chief Magistrates Court and charged with six counts of forgery and uttering a false document.

The 72-year-old tycoon residing in Diplomate Zone Kansanga in Makindye Division Kampala faces charges of making a false declaration, three counts of forgery, and two counts of uttering a false document.

The court, presided over by Aggrey Atamba, Senior Magistrate Grade 1, at Buliisa Chief Magistrate’s Court, has heard that on October 18, 2006, Kaahwa made a false statement in an application to the Masindi Land Board to obtain 500 acres of land as a customary land owner in Tutwe, Kihungya, Biiso sub-county, Buliisa district.

The state prosecutor, Steven Asaba, who is the Senior Residents State Attorney, also told the court that on January 18, 2006, Kaahwa made a false application document signed by Lukumu Kadogoli to convert customary land.

That same day, he presented a false document dated October 18, 2006, about the transaction of the same land.

On January 20, 2006, at Biiso Sub County, he also presented a false sale agreement of 500 acres between him and Gafabusa Sirimosi.

Court also heard that 14 /05/2024 at State House Unit presented false sell agreement to detective sergeant Dongi Daniel Wako for 500 acres and on 18/01/2007 he presented a survey document to Masindi with minutes dated 20/12/2006 and 30/12/2006.

Kaahwa has pleaded not guilty to the counts.

Through his lawyer, Daniel Omala, he has applied for bail on the grounds that he is suffering from diabetes.

He presented three sureties, which include John Baala, Chuii Muzamil, who is the district councillor for Kigwera Sub County, and Gilbert Tibasima, who is the vice chairperson of Buliisa.

However, the magistrate, Aggrey Atamba, remanded him to Masindi government prison until August 20, when his bail application will be heard.

Recently, the state minister for lands, Dr. Sam Mayanja, directed the arrest of Kahwa for forging and obtaining ownership over land measuring 700 acres in Wantembo and Bombo villages in Butiaba town council.
