Buliisa: One person died and two others were severely injured in a road accident in Buliisa district.

The accident that occurred at around 8:30 p.m on Kisomere-Kasenyi Road in Ngwedo Sub County involved a truck with registration number UBP 894N and a motorcycle.

According to eyewitnesses, the accident occurred when the motorcycle rider, who was coming from Kisomere trading center, heading to Kasinyi, was knocked from behind the vehicle that was going in the same direction.

Eyewitnesses added that the yet-to-be identified rider died on the spot while his two passengers were rushed to Buliisa district general hospital in critical condition.

“The rider knocked the truck from behind and died on the spot, while his two passengers sustained severe injuries and were rushed to Buliisa district general hospital in critical condition,’’ said one eyewitness.

This prompted the angry residents to set the truck ablaze. The deceased and the injured are residents of Kesenyi village in Nile Parish, Ngwedo Sub County.

Efforts to get a comment from John Mwaule, the Buliisa District Police Commander (DPC), on the matter by publication time were futile since he could not answer our phone calls.

However, recently, Julius Allan Hakiza, the Albertine regional police spokesperson, attributed most road accidents in the region to reckless driving and riding.

He said most riders and drivers don’t follow the road signs and rules.

At least five people have so far perished in road accidents in the oil-rich Buliisa district since this year began.
