Bukedea man swallows poison at in-laws home over love affairs
“I’m no longer in love with you; you chased me to leave your home; let me start my own life," said Arionget.
Kumi: A man in Bukedea district, identified as Julius Olupe, a resident of Malera Sub County in Bukedea district, took action on Wednesday, June 19, 2024, to drink poison at the home of the in-laws after a disagreement with the wife, Scovia Arionget, to return to their home.
Mr. Olupe had visited the in-laws’ home in Acera village, Tisai Sub County, Kumi district, after the incident of domestic violence.
In the family meeting at the in-laws home, chaired by the Acera local council chairperson Moses Etiang, Arionget refused to return to her home in Malera, hence angering her husband, Mr. Olupe, to take poison.
According to Mr. Etiang, the meeting ended in tears, and Mr. Olupe was rushed to the nearby clinic for first aid.
“We were shocked to see that our son-in-law is again taking poison after the wife refused to go back with him. We had to run to the nearby clinic again to seek their first aid,” said Mr. Etiang.
Mr. Etiang also added that the victim’s life is in critical condition. “We pray for his life because his condition is not good,” added Mr. Etiang.
Scovia Arionget, the victim’s wife, refused to return to her home despite Olupe’s decision to take poison.
“I’m no longer in love with you; you chased me to leave your home; let me start my own life,” said Arionget.
Ms. Mary Acom, one of the community members in Tisai, condemned Olupe’s act of taking poison, saying he would have engaged more clan leaders in their family matters.
However, Mr. Olupe’s life deteriorated, and he was referred to Kumi Hospital Ongino, where he is currently admitted.
