Bugweri District Kadhi terminated from office
The UMSC reiterated its commitment to upholding the highest standards of accountability, transparency, and ethical leadership in all Muslim districts.
Bugweri: The Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC) has officially terminated Sheikh Huzaima Magumba from his position as the District Kadhi of Bugweri Muslim District, following an investigation into alleged academic fraud.
According to a letter dated May 26, 2025, from the Office of the Mufti (Ref: UMSC/MO/25/41), Sheikh Magumba was found to have submitted forged academic documents, specifically a Thanawi certificate, during his nomination and appointment process.
“In light of the above findings, and in accordance with the constitutional mandate of UMSC, you are hereby terminated from your position as District Kadhi of Bugweri Muslim District with immediate effect,” the letter stated.
The decision follows a formal complaint lodged by concerned members of the Bugweri Muslim District, prompting a comprehensive internal investigation by UMSC.
The inquiry concluded that Sheikh Magumba’s documents were not authentic, constituting a serious breach of the UMSC Constitution, particularly Article 19(3)(b), which sets the minimum academic and moral qualifications for holders of religious offices.
Sheikh Magumba has been ordered to vacate the office immediately and return all UMSC property and equipment in his possession to the District Chairperson.
In the termination letter, His Eminence Sheikh Dr. Shaban Ramadhan Mubajje, the Mufti of Uganda, emphasized that the move was essential to protect the integrity and credibility of Islamic leadership in Uganda.
“This decision is aimed at preserving the trust and confidence of the Muslim community in Bugweri and across the country,” said Sheikh Mubajje.
The UMSC reiterated its commitment to upholding the highest standards of accountability, transparency, and ethical leadership in all Muslim districts.
