Kagadi:A boda boda cyclist in Kagadi town has committed suicide by hanging himself due to overwhelming stress caused by the theft of his motorcycle.
The 24-year-old Boniface Kahwa was discovered Sunday morning dangling on the shoe threads in his bedroom.
The boda boda cyclist was a resident of Kiraba Upper Cell in Kagadi town, Kagadi district, operating at Mahindura Stage in Kagadi Town.
According to the deceased’s mother, Mary Mbabazi, the heartbreaking incident occurred at around 11 a.m. when Kahwa locked himself in his bedroom and took his own life.
Mbabazi revealed that her son had expressed thoughts of suicide prior to the tragic event, deeply distressed by the theft of his motorcycle.
Residents say that the theft of Kahwa’s motorcycle, coupled with the pressure from bailiffs in Boda-Boda Banja demanding repayment of a loan totaling 5 million Ugandan shillings, weighed heavily on his mind.
Israel Irumba, the LC1 Chairperson of Kiraba Upper, urged the youth to refrain from excessive alcohol consumption, which he identified as a contributing factor to such desperate actions.
We couldn’t get a comment from Julius Allan Hakiza, the Albertien Regional Police Spokesperson, by press time.
