Kampala: The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has decided to demote Arua Hill Sports Club to the FUFA Big League.
The development was confirmed after the club failed to fulfill the club licensing requirements ahead of the second round of the season.
FUFA Deputy CEO in Charge of Football, Decolas Hantali Kizza, confirmed the development in a statement released on Tuesday.
The press release read, ‘’FUFA appreciates your effort to fulfill club licensing requirements to participate in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League 2023–24. Your request has not been considered by the
FUFA Club Licensing Appeals Committee (FCLAC).’’
‘’The FUFA Club Licensing Appeals Committee has noted that Arua Hill Sports Club has continuously violated its obligations under the FUFA Club Licensing Regulations. The decision of the FUFA Club Licensing Committee is therefore upheld. The club is therefore advised to prepare for club licensing in the men’s second division league for the season 2024–25,’’ it further read in part.
The decision means that Arua Hill will play in next season’s Big League (2024/25).
This season, Arua Hill SC struggles have been due to financial hardships that saw them lose their head coach, Charles Livingstone Mbabazi, who joined the Vipers, while players such as captain Gaddafi Wahab and goalkeeper Richard Anyama joined NEC FC and UPDF FC, respectively.
Reagan Mpande moved to record Uganda Premier League champions SC Villa, while Ibrahim Oriti joined BUL FC.
They were recently humbled by third-division side Nsambya FC 3-0 in the Stanbic Uganda Cup round of 64.
For starters, Arua Hill earned top-flight status after finishing at the top of the FUFA Big League in the 2020–21 season. The 2021/22 season was their first campaign in the Uganda Premier League.
