Kampala: Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) president Patrick Amuriat has announced significant progress toward reconciliation with the disgruntled party leaders who are now based in Katonga.
Amuriat disclosed that their persistent efforts have already seen a considerable number of members rejoin the party, with discussions ongoing to bring back others who remain in dissent.
While the identities of the returning members were not disclosed, reports suggest that notable figures, including MPs William Nzoghu, Florence Kabugho, and Harold Muhindo from Kasese, could be among those considering a return to Najjanankumbi.
A section of FDC leaders, including its former national chairman Wasswa Birigwa, were forced out of Najjanankumbi last year as division within FDC deepened over allegations that Amuriat and Secretary General Nathan Nandala Mafabi had received financial inducements from the ruling party.
Undeterred by dissenting voices, Amuriat affirmed their commitment to pursuing reconciliation, announcing plans to convene with all FDC Members of Parliament to further advance the reconciliation agenda.
The rift within the FDC party came to a head following allegations of financial impropriety leveled against top party leaders during a meeting at Nsambya Sharing Hall, leading to a factional split.
The splinter group has since pitched camp at Katonga Road under the wings of former FDC president Kizza Besigye.
