Ad-hoc committee formed to investigate Lamwo motorized borehole project

Furthermore, they called for the formation of an ad hoc committee to conduct a fact-finding mission at the project site.

Lamwo: The Lamwo District Council has established a five-member Ad-hoc Committee to investigate the Palabek SS motorized borehole project.

This follows an urgent matter raised by Hon. Oyella Joyce, the Palabek Gem/Abera Female Councillor.

According to a document dated August 31, 2024, presented by Hon. Oyella, 83 community members from Lakwar Village, Patanga Parish in Palabek Gem Subcounty, Lamwo District, have petitioned for their dismantled borehole to be reinstated or replaced with a new one.

They have also requested a follow-up on the environmental components of the DR-DIP projects at Palabek SS and Likiliki Primary School.

Furthermore, they called for the formation of an ad hoc committee to conduct a fact-finding mission at the project site.

However, Lamwo District Vice Chairperson, Hon. Odongmadiki David, argued that the motorized borehole project is already under investigation, following the arrest of the District Water Officer.

He added that the matter is being handled by the Inspector General of Government (IGG) and urged the council not to deliberate on it further.

Despite this, the Lamwo District Speaker, Hon. Ochola James, constituted a five-member ad hoc committee led by Elders’ Councillor Odida Macmicho. Other members include Onyach Alex Olweny, Councillor for People with Disabilities (PWDs), Aporo Monica, Potika Female Councillor, Evelyne Akech, Lokung Town Council Female Councillor, and Samuel Cankara, Paloga Subcounty Councillor.

The Speaker urged the committee to conduct an independent investigation without yielding to any form of intimidation, emphasizing the need to act in the best interest of the community.
