Acholi religious leaders demand justice for murdered Seeta High School teacher

He encouraged the Acholi community to remain united and uphold peace, stressing that such senseless killings should never be tolerated.

Kitgum: The Episcopal Vicar of Kitgum Vicariate, Monsignor Komakech Christopher, has strongly condemned the brutal murder of Oloya Ivan, a former teacher at Seeta High School, who was killed in Mukono last Saturday.

Speaking during a requiem mass on Thursday, March 27, 2025, at Christ the King Parish in Kitgum Municipality, Monsignor Komakech decried the rising violence against innocent Ugandans and urged authorities to ensure swift justice for Ivan’s killers.

In his sermon, Monsignor Komakech expressed deep sorrow over the growing trend of unwarranted violence, calling on the police and government to act decisively in delivering justice.

“This tragic loss is a reminder that no Ugandan should live in fear. We must stand together against all forms of violence, including assaults and witchcraft, which only deepen the scars of hopelessness in our society,” he urged.

He encouraged the Acholi community to remain united and uphold peace, stressing that such senseless killings should never be tolerated.

Born on December 25, 1995, in Kitgum District, Ivan’s academic journey saw him attend Ayoma Primary School and Childcare International Primary School where he sat for PLE, Kitgum Alliance College, Monsignor Antonio Vignato School, Kitgum Comprehensive College, and Gulu University, where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Geography and History (Arts Education).

He dedicated his career to teaching, serving at Hoima Seminary School, St. Peter’s Bombo Kalule, and Seeta High Mbalala Campus, where he taught before his untimely death.

Oloya Ivan will be laid to rest on Friday, March 28, 2025, in Pamolo Olet, Labongo Layamo Subcounty, Kitgum District.

His passing has left a deep void among his family, students, and the education fraternity, who continue to mourn a dedicated teacher whose life was tragically cut short.
