Tooro musician Kigambo Araali laid to rest in Kyenjojo

As Kigambo Araali is laid to rest, his legacy remains an inspiration to musicians, artists, and cultural enthusiasts across Uganda.

Kyenjojo: The people of Nyantungo Town Council in Kyenjojo District gathered on Tuesday to pay their final respects to renowned Tooro musician Kigambo Moses Araali, who passed away on Saturday last week in Fort Portal City.

Widely known as “Entale Ya Tooro” (The Lion of Tooro), Kigambo Araali was celebrated for his soulful and educative music that showcased the rich cultural heritage of the Tooro region.

His powerful songs tackled essential societal themes, including family values, cultural pride, land rights, and community development.

His immense contribution to Uganda’s cultural scene earned him multiple accolades, notably the Pearl of Africa Music Award for Best Cultural Artist in 2007.

During the funeral, Minister of Tourism Tom Butime paid tribute to Kigambo Araali, acknowledging his pivotal role in promoting Tooro’s cultural identity.

“He sang songs that describe what Tooro region is today,” said Butime. The minister further pledged to advocate for Kigambo Araali to be declared a national hero, recognizing his lasting impact on Uganda’s music and cultural landscape.
