Paidha United and Pakwach share spoils as Nebbi Central fall to Parombo Mission Stars

In another surprising result, Parombo Mission Stars stunned league leaders Nebbi Central FC with a 1-0 victory at Luo Grounds in Nebbi Municipality.

Paidha: The much-anticipated football clash between West Nile giants Paidha United FC and Pakwach Young Stars FC ended in a goalless draw at Kings Stadium Cana in Zombo district.

The two Nebbi-based teams, sitting second and third in the league, squandered numerous goal-scoring opportunities throughout the match. Despite a tense and closely contested game, both sides failed to find the back of the net over the full 90 minutes.

The encounter, played on Sunday afternoon, saw both teams create chances but lacked the clinical finishing to break the deadlock. Pakwach Young Stars winger Bashir missed a golden opportunity in the first half when he sent a header wide of goal, and shortly after, Paidha United goalkeeper Herbert Ofoyrwoth denied another Pakwach chance inside the penalty area.

The first half was dominated by Pakwach, who applied early pressure on Paidha. However, the home side defended well and showed resilience, although they lacked the necessary attacking power to pose a serious threat. The second half saw Pakwach’s midfield gain control, but they were unable to capitalize on their dominance.

Paidha United’s Ronald Ogencan was presented with a chance to put the hosts ahead after being set up by midfielder Zaza, but he failed to convert. Another opportunity was wasted by Saviour Oyergiu, who was set up by defender Jerry Kumakech. Later in the game, United missed a clean chance inside the box, as a shot and follow-up attempt were denied by Pakwach’s goalkeeper. A powerful volley by United’s Zaza also struck the crossbar, much to the crowd’s dismay.

In the dying moments of the game, Pakwach’s striker had a one-on-one chance with United’s goalkeeper, but after rounding him, the ball hit the woodwork, sealing the 0-0 draw.

Rwothomio Edward, the head coach of Paidha United, expressed his disappointment with the result but assured fans that improvements would be made in the upcoming games. “This was not the result we expected, but that’s football. We didn’t perform well in the second half, but we’ll work on improving and aim for six points in our remaining games,” he said.

Paidha United has been struggling with injuries, and one key defender, Oyeny, returned from a three-match ban after being sent off during their away game against Parombo Mission Stars last week.

Meanwhile, Pakwach Young Stars’ technical director, Noah Aziz, praised his side for earning a valuable point away from home, although he acknowledged the team’s struggles after losing two key players to other clubs last season. “We are doing all we can to improve our performance going forward,” he said.

The match was the third-last fixture of the Nyagak Zone Regional League for this season. Paidha United, known as “The Comrades,” will next face Alpha Rising Stars away from home and Arua Airfield at Kings Stadium Cana in January 2024 to wrap up their league campaign.
