Kiira RPC issues security guidelines ahead of festive season

He urged that joint patrols begin immediately and emphasized the importance of CCTV cameras in supporting operations and investigations.

Kiira: During a meeting held recently at the Civil Service College Jinja, the Regional Police Commander (RPC) for Kiira, SSP Charles Nsaba, addressed senior officers and OCs from across the region, offering key guidance on maintaining effective policing during the upcoming festive season.

SSP Nsaba emphasized several critical security measures aimed at reducing criminality and enhancing public safety.

These included heightened alertness, improved customer service, and daily joint patrols and intelligence-led operations in crime-prone areas.

He also called for increased supervision from District Police Commanders (DPCs) during both day and night shifts, as well as a firm commitment to human rights and combating extortion and bribery.

Furthermore, the use of integrated highway patrol vehicles was directed to monitor key roads, including the Jinja-Iganga-Busia and Jinja-Kamuli roads, to prevent highway robberies and accidents.

The RPC also issued strict directives concerning sugarcane trucks. He instructed that all sugarcane trucks with mechanical issues be towed to police parking yards, stating, “I don’t want to see stationary sugarcane trucks on our roads starting tonight.”

He warned officers that they should remain vigilant, noting that all crimes, whether major or minor, that instill fear in the public should be taken seriously.

Among the crimes he mentioned were terrorism, murders, armed robberies, land grabbing, accidents, gender-based violence, child abuse, and the misuse of computers to spread hatred.

SSP Nsaba further revealed that the Busoga cantonment commander had reinforced the police with UPDF officers to ensure enhanced public safety throughout the festive season.

He urged that joint patrols begin immediately and emphasized the importance of CCTV cameras in supporting operations and investigations.

In addition, he cautioned officers to protect key government infrastructure, including the Source of the Nile bridges, power stations, Kiira Motors, and UNOC oil reserves, as well as places of worship and public events like markets and hotels.

The RPC also called on the public to cooperate with security forces by sharing information about suspicious activities and ensuring that local councils maintain a system to register all persons, including guests and visitors at hostels and guesthouses.

In an additional warning, the Regional CID Officer, SSP Monday Johnson Agaba, cautioned CID officers against mishandling cases, stressing that civil cases should not be registered as criminal cases. He reminded officers that police bond is free and emphasized the importance of handling public interest cases with care. “I don’t want to hear complaints about case file mismanagement, or you will find yourself in cells,” he warned.

SSP David Katunda, the Deputy RPC, will lead the regional alert squad to ensure strict compliance with the security measures. Non-compliant officers, particularly OCs, will face arrests.

The Kiira Region Police Spokesperson SP James Mubi urged officers to remain detail-oriented, people-centered, and results-driven to uphold the integrity and image of the police force.
