Pader leaders petition minister over delayed ex-gratia payments

He revealed that the LCI Chairpersons in Pader District have now gone without their mandatory ex-gratia payments for almost a year.

Pader: Mr. Olanya Olenge Tonny, a resident of Okinga Central Village in Acholibur Subcounty, Pader District, has petitioned the Minister of Local Government, Hon. Raphael Magyezi, regarding the delayed payment of ex-gratia benefits for Local Council One (LCI) Chairpersons in the district.

In a letter dated 18th November 2024, which was received by the Minister’s office and obtained by this publication, Mr. Olanya expressed concern over the prolonged delay in disbursing the ex-gratia payments to LCI Chairpersons in greater Pader district.

He stated that the delay is placing significant financial strain on the leaders and disrupting their ability to carry out their responsibilities effectively.

Mr. Olanya has called for clarification on the matter and urged the government to implement measures that will address the delay.

He emphasized the need for transparency and accountability in the disbursement of these payments, which are meant to compensate local leaders for their services.

Pader District LCV Chairperson, Hon. Obwoya Fearless Oyat, confirmed the delay, noting that it is a nationwide issue.

He revealed that the LCI Chairpersons in Pader District have now gone without their mandatory ex-gratia payments for almost a year, and they have raised the concern with the relevant ministry.
