Bukedea locals threaten to protest over poor state of Kamutur-Tajar road

This put pressure on the district security team to hold the emergency stakeholders meeting.

Bukedea: Locals in the villages of Kamutur, Tajar and Kolir in Kamutur and Kolir Sub County have threatened to wage a protest over the poor state of Kamutur-Tajar road in Bukedea district.

Kamutur-Tajar road is the only road that connects residents to Tajar health center III.

The state of the road is characterized by numerous potholes  causing challenges on people, especially patients, to access the health facility.

Tajar health center III is the only government health facility in the entire Kamutur sub county which was recently upgraded by the ministry of health from being health II to health center III.

On October 12, 2024, a group of concerned citizens under the umbrella of“Hakuna Muchezo” chaired by Stephen Ekoom wrote on social media asking the security officers, RDC office, Police and the district technocrats to grant them permission to carry out the peaceful protest which was planned to take place on Friday, October 18, 2024.

This put pressure on the district security team to hold the emergency stakeholders meeting on Monday, October 15, 2024.

The meeting was held at bukedea resident district commissioner William Wilberforce Tukei.

Mr. Jackson Ojekede, Kamutur LCIII chairperson told this publication that the road was allocated to Acomai irrigation scheme but no action has been taken.

“We were asked to identify some of the roads which are to be worked by the Acomai irrigation scheme contractors which is Dott service but all along nothing has happened”, said Mr. Ojekede.

During the meeting chaired by the Bukedea Resident District Commissioner William Wilberforce Tukei, the matter was resolved and the district engineer was tasked to contact Dott service Limited contractors to explain why the road is not worked on.

“I want appreciate this concerned citizens headed by Mr. Stephen Ekoom being united and express their concern over the poor state of the road, we have discovered that this road is out of the district plan and its Dott service which is supposed to work on it, so we have resolved that district engineer to take action to engage with them in order to ensure that the road is fixed on”, said Mr. Tukei.

Mr. Stephen Ekoom, one of the concerned citizens who was  a brain behind the peaceful protest called off saying the engagement with the district leadership has yielded positive results to them as well as the community.

“We are the district leadership, and have picked up interest to ensure that the road is fixed on, so I want to appeal to my people to calm down as we wait for the response from our leaders”, said Mr. Ekoom.

However we were unable to get the comment from Dott service officials by the time of filing this story
