Kabale School receives new classroom block
He also highlighted a significant challenge of the lack of electricity in some parts of Maziba Sub-County.
Kabale: Vidullanka, a company from Sri Lanka working in Uganda through the Muvunmbe Small Hydro Power project, has handed over a completed two-classroom block and one office at Kahondo Primary School in Ndrowa East, Kabale District.
The project, which cost $16,000 (60,800,000 UGX), aims to improve the educational environment for local students.
During the handover ceremony at the school on Monday, Byaruhanga Elias, the head teacher of Kahondo Primary School, expressed gratitude, noting that the previous classroom conditions were far from ideal. He said that the old classrooms had uneven walls, dusty floors, leaking roofs, and generally poor conditions that hindered effective learning.
Byaruhanga thanked Muvunmbe Small Hydro Power Project for addressing their request and constructing the new school blocks.
He emphasized that the new classrooms will provide a much-needed improvement in the learning environment, allowing students to sit comfortably and study more effectively. He also committed to maintaining the facilities to ensure they remain in good condition.
Mutungi Onesmus, the LC3 Chairperson of Maziba Sub-County, expressed appreciation for the newly constructed classrooms.
However, he also highlighted a significant challenge of the lack of electricity in some parts of Maziba Sub-County. He pointed out that despite the presence of a hydropower source in their region, Kavu and Maziba Sub-County still do not have access to electricity, which he described as a major issue for the community.
Mutungi requested that the Muvunmbe Small Hydro Power Project should collaborate with UMEME to extend electricity to their community. He assured that residents are willing to provide land for the installation of power poles to facilitate this development.
In response, Mr. Bruce Rwakaryoto, representing the Muvunmbe Small Hydro Power project, stated that while they are committed to advocating for the community’s needs, their role is limited to generating power.
He explained that their license only covers generation and not distribution. However, he assured that they will continue to push for cooperation with UMEME to help bring electricity to the community.
Kahondo Primary School is a Catholic school aided by the Government of Uganda through the Ministry of Education and Sports, with an enrollment of 656 learners.
